“We are in danger of losing an account. This account team was reorganized 12 months ago. We just brought in a new manager. Currently, half the team isn’t talking to the other half. The two new people on the team are thinking about leaving. Most urgently, the client deadlines are not being met. The account is in jeopardy!”
What we did: Two-day off-site team meeting to address client concerns and team issues using the Iceberg Model as a guide.
Outcomes: The team put many issues on the table and took ownership of the solutions. Management assisted in ongoing problem solving discussions across multiple locations. The account was saved.
“Our team does not handle conflict well. We either ignore it or someone blows up at someone else. There are a lot of bad feelings and blame. Bottom line, we don’t communicate well and we don’t know how to fix it.”
What we did: 3-hour team meeting using the Iceberg Model to identify sources of conflict and proactive solutions to address them.
Outcomes: The team identified the top 3-5 sources of conflict and drafted policies and practices to clarify how these situations should be handled in the future.
“My team is being reorganized and I have recently been named as the manager. We don’t have major problems at the moment, but I want to get us started on the right foot.”
What we did: Kick-off meeting focusing on Clear Team Goals and Understanding Everyone’s Role.
Outcomes: The team is performing well and continually revisits their Goals and Roles using the Iceberg Model.
“We have major trust and respect issues. Our organization, while only 500 people, has a history of poor communication and departmental silos. If we are going to stay in business, we need to figure this out!”
What we did: Two day off site meeting, including department leaders and select employees, to clarify Organizational Goals, Departmental Priorities, and Organizational Process Improvements.
Outcomes: The departments created Goals and Objectives for the upcoming year. The departments also created cross-organizational groups to address major problems that affected multiple areas.
